Feedback
After, creating user flows and discussions with the tech and business leads,
the following observations were made:
- Adding a communication feature would increase the bulk of the product and
increase development costs and tech infrastructure requirements as well.
- WhatsApp as a tool is already well integrated in the users’ lives
- The current user flow with 4 user roles could be made simpler
To streamline the product further, there would be 2 user roles primarily -
unregistered and registered users.
Event and squad creation and communication would be handled outside the platform through Whatsapp.

An immersive map
The design strategy was to centre all the functionality defined above around a
map
of the city. This would make
all the information easily accessible and encourage usage participation by emphasising on the fact that this is
their place of residence and they have the power to make it better.
Capturing users
Users would be encouraged to register on the platform to create reports, join
squads and events.
This would be done by making the user invest in the process first, by taking an image of the
garbage for example, and then signing up to upload, followed by messaging to reward their investment in the
process. There would be an option to skip sign up as well.
Homepage
The UI used brand colours and fonts, and Material 2 guidelines for the overall
design language. The brand colour of Jhatkaa is red, which is a colour that typically denotes error messages in
UIs. But, here we wanted to harness the emotions of passion, urgency and action which is why red was used so
prominently throughout. The colour palette apart from red is neutral to complement it.
Profile Gamification
Once we had users on the platform, we had to think of a way to keep users
continuously engaged by encouraging them to perform more actions. We created profile levels and badges for
actions. The more actions a user would perform, the more badges they would earn and the more they would level
up their profile.
Rewarding Language
We wanted to use positive, clear and rewarding language throughout the product
to make users feel good when they took an action.

"A resident from Jayanagar 3rd Block said, “Garbage has been piling up near our
neighborhood for years. We had no idea who to contact to report the problem. The tool helped us report the
issue, we are now hoping for the place to be cleaned up. We have seen regular cleanups in Shalini Grounds by
the Ploggers Army. By reporting these incidents and adopting sustainable practices, we can make a positive
impact on our environment.”
